With the future of UMD in doubt, Sony has announced plans to ship Memory Stick Pro Duo Entertainment Packs via Sony Style retail and web stores.  The packs feature either a 1GB or 2GB ($60 / $100 for the MSX-M1GSTEP and MSX-M2GSE respectively) Memory  Stick Duo along with a DVD which when run on a PC delivers one of four specially PSP optimised movies available for playback via the memory stick.

Movie choice consists of Hitch, S.W.A.T, The Grudge or XXX: State of the Union.

Too little, too late?

Nice idea, but if this is an attempt to push movie on stick popularity, I hope Sony start to offer more movie choices. The four offered here can only be described as 'dull'. Perhaps an iTunes-esque distibution method would prove popular...not everyone will want to buy a new stick to get a new movie...

I agree

I spend more time on my PSP watching videos than playing games. I have a few UMDs but I prefer the longer battery life I get with MP4s on the memory stick; I find I get about 2x the time!

If Sony had an line library of movies available for purchase and download, I'd make use of that.
