After months of speculation regarding a PSP 2 and/or an second edition PSP, Sony has finally announced the release of the PSP-2000 aka "PSP Slim" at E3 2007.

The new PSP Slim unit is essentially functionally the same as the original, whilst weighing in 33% lighter and 19% slimmer. The PSP Slim has dropped from a portly 280g to 189 and gone from 23mm to 18.6mm thick.

A video-out socket allows the PSP's signal to easily be routed to larger screens such as a TV. It's now possible to charge the PSP via a USB connection to a PlayStation 3 or PC.

Owners of the current PSP will be happy or saddened to hear that the PSP Slim has revamped the D-pad, making it more responsive and easier to use.

Initially available in Piano Black, Ceramic White and Ice Silver, the PSP Slim will be released from the 20th September 2007 in Japan, Europe and the US.
