Sony has lowered the suggested retail price of the PSP to $170 to help compete with competitors such as the Nintendo DS. Despite rumours of a price drop in the past, this $30 dollar drop is the first time there has been a price cut to the basic package.
Previously Sony has favoured value packs over drops to the suggest
retail price, with more expensive but well equipped bundles frequently
hitting the market.
The move follows postings of a 3rd quarter operating loss of $443 million (US) after the launch of the PlayStation 3 console.
