Sony announced its 3rd quarter financial results yesterday, with disappointing results across the gaming sectors. A growth in profits was seen overall, attributable to the success of the Bravia and Cybershot brands for televisions and digital cameras respectively.
Notably, PSP software sales, meaning UMD sales, increased too, with
a 24% increase compared to the previous year. The surge also pushed
the total number of game titles distributed on a Sony UMD to over 20
million. Unfortunately, whilst not inevitable, sales of the PSP unit
itself were down 72% as the sales which peaked after global launch
subside. However the gaming division as a whole reported a 54.2 billion Yen ($450,000,000 USD) loss overall.
