Sony today launched its game download service for PlayStation titles following the release of the PS3, and the recent 3.0 firmware update for the PSP.

The PlayStation Portable will now be able to emulate games from the orginal Playstaion console.  However, in order to achieve such a retro gaming fix, PSP users are required to download games to a PS3, before transferring them to the PSP console.

Sony has reportedly previously stated that transfer of games will be possible using a WiFi enabled PC in addition to a PS3, although this latest announcement makes no reference to this.

A mix of first and thrid-party PlayStation titles are available at launch with more stated to follow:

Cool Boarders®
Crash Bandicoot™
Hot Shots Golf® 2
Syphon Filter®
Tekken 2

PSP users will be charged $5.99 per game, regardless of whether they own the original title.
