In the wake of the launch of the iPhone, Apple head Steve Jobs "trash-talked" the Sony PSP and other portable devices in an article at Time. "In the hours we spent talking about the iPhone, Jobs trash-talked the Treo, the BlackJack, the Sony PSP and the Sony Mylo ("just garbage compared to this"), Windows Vista ("It's just a copy of an old version of Mac OSX") and of course Microsoft's would-be iPod killer, Zune. |

Sony has announced plans to release a Gold PSP unit to the Japanese market. Combining the release with the launch of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, the sequel to Japan's best selling PSP title, Sony and the game distributors Capcom will release the Mionster Hunter Portable 2nd Hunters Pack. |

The FT has reported that Sony is apparently set to launch a movie video download service in the first half of 2007. Amazon, along with Movielink and Cinema now have been named as possible content providers, in a move which would threaten Apple's dominance on the video download market. |

Sony has been forced to come clean after being called out as behind a viral marketing site disguised as a PSP blog. The blog, Alliwantforxmasisapsp.com was supposedly setup by Charlie and friend Jeremy who had a wish to be given a PSP for Christmas. |

The long awaited GPS receiver for the Sony PSP has began to ship in Japan. As of last week, hardware exporter Play-Asia started to take orders however it states shipping times of 1 -2 weeks. |

Just one day after the release of firmaware 3.0, version 3.01 is now available for PSP systems. The 3.01 release was presumably intended to patch "security issues" as there are no further upgrades or additions to the firmware feature set from the previous release. |

Sony has released the next incarnation of PSP firmware, version 3.0. 3.0 delivers on the promise of interoperability between the PSP and PlayStation 3 console, in addition to the PSOne emulator allowing users to play original PlayStation titles from the PlayStation online store. At the time of writing there are no games available however pricing details have been released, with titles to cost between $5.99 and $10.99. |
